Our Discretionary Fund Management (DFM) service is our flagship offering combining our investment management expertise with our financial planning advice within Anderson Strathern Asset Management. Once your financial planner has gained an understanding of your individual goals and objectives, they will instruct the investment team to allocate your capital across one or more of our actively managed models to best meet your objectives.
The overarching philosophy for our investment department is sustainable growth. Our key strategy is to invest for the long term and not be drawn into short term themes or media trends which often lack a fundamental basis for investment.
Our investment process is structured with a focus on actively managed external funds. We look to invest with external managers who share our beliefs and can demonstrate a genuine investment process to enhance value for investors.
Across the year we blend our time reviewing our current holdings and meeting new external managers. We seek to understand their investment philosophy, performance and ability to replicate this process in the current and anticipated market conditions and have the ability to invest with smaller boutique managers focusing on investment performance rather than asset gathering. We will use passive investments to facilitate our asset allocation views where appropriate.
The team works to analyse and identify themes in markets and combine that with well managed funds to provide investment solutions for our clients. We manage our clients’ capital into model solutions that generate returns from a blend of asset classes such as equities, fixed income, alternatives and property. Our current range of solutions reflects the diversity of products demanded by our financial planners. At present, we offer a range of five core model portfolios with additional models to meet income and ethical considerations.
The DFM service is a proactive approach with our managers continually looking for fresh opportunities across our suite of models. As a long term investor our philosophy is to make meaningful changes rather than micro-managing the investments. However, while we pick for long term and not immediate, short-term profit, our smaller size and boutique style enable us to be nimble and make quick decisions when necessary. Investment decisions are made in consensus across the team.
